Summer Styling: Accessories

Summer is perfect for lazy beach days, pool parties, picnics in the park, barbeque get-togethers and just generally enjoying some fun in the sun. It’s also perfect for fun bright accessories, like my five favorites this season.

I love the classic shapes of these Ray Bans that I have had since 2008.

Sandals are great, but I love ballet flats and these are perfectly seasonal. These two pairs were recent purchases from Francesca’s.

Summer is about being bright and bold, so let your jewelry take you there.

I’m obsessed with straw fedoras, which would explain the three nearly identical hats that I own.

Colorful, lightweight scarves are great for cooler days or nights out.

Summer Wrap

A silk scarf adds instant glam to the simplest of outfits, plus it’s a great way to disguise a bad hair day. To stay cool this summer (and protect your scalp from sunburn), throw on a light-colored dress, a stack of bangles, straw wedges and a colorful headwrap. A swipe of bright lipstick completes the look, and if you’re too hot with you hair down, pull your strands into a loose side braid.

Juicy Brights

Having successfully completed my second to last semester at UGA, I’ve thoroughly been enjoying the brief down time that I have before beginning my summer internship. Because I’ve been in desperate need of new shorts ever since the weather heated up, today my mom and I made a quick trip to Lenox.

After successfully finding two cute (and inexpensive) pairs of shorts, we browsed a bit in ZARA where I could not take my eyes off of these bright lightweight
tanks with exposed zippers in the back. After I scooped up a few  and made my way to the dressing room, my mom found the amazing orange woven belt that perfectly complimented the tanks. I absolutely love how the juicy colors exude a feeling of eating  fruit or sipping lemonade by the pool on a hot day.

Athens is FASHION!

The first annual Athens Fashion Week is TOMORROW, and I could not be more excited, glamazons!

From April 20 – 22, the Classic City will be transformed into a fashion hub, bringing a little bit of New York City to this southern town. Combining the charm of Athens with the high style of top designers, this is the must-attend fashion event of the year.

As a public relations intern for the event, Athens Fashion Week is near and dear to my heart. It is the product of countless people’s devoted efforts and the culmination of many long hours. It is surreal to think that the main event is but one day away.

Here is a list of the week’s events. Click here for additional information, including how to purchase tickets online.

  • Southern Style in the Classic City, April 20
  • Cocktails & Couture for a Cause – Hosted by Kim Zolciak of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, April 21
  • Bling Out Breast Cancer, April 22

Visit Athens Fashion Week online and connect with us on Facebook and Twitter (@athfashionweek) to get the latest updates about the event. I hope to see you there, glamazons, but if you can’t make it, I will be posting updates throughout the week!

Fashion Profile: Diana Llaveria

Diana Llaveria, 21 years old

Description of personal style: My roommate today described my personal style as “punk meets hipster,” which I think is fairly accurate. (But I would add “meets lazy!”)

Favorite clothing stores: Urban Outfitters, H&M and Psycho Sisters

Favorite designers: Oscar de la Renta, BCBG and Guess!

Your style icons: Emma Watson, Jessica Stroup, AnnaLynne McCord and Helena Bonham Carter

Accessory that you can’t live without: I am obsessed with my feather hairpiece; I feel like it makes most of my outfits. It just adds that something extra.

Your go-to clothing item: I always grab my Gap skinny jeans. They are old and super ripped up; the style is called the “Diva.” And then with those, I would pair an old t-shirt.

Favorite trend for spring: Tribal prints! I have always been a fan, and I’m starting to see them everywhere. I just can’t get enough. I especially like the tribal print for loose, flowy shirts.

Best fashion advice given to you: My mom told me not to be intimidated by what I wear, and that if you decide to wear something then you own it; nobody can look at you funny for your fashion choices.

Your fashion advice for others: I would say do not be swayed by the generalizations others may make. Like, if you like a style don’t be afraid to wear it because people will label you as a “hipster” or as a “punk.” Wear it because you like it.
